Plan a Trip

Where to go and for how long?

The hardest part is always getting started and making the decsion to stop fantasising and start doing! But first where to go and for how long? My advice is start big and work your way down if its not possible and assess your situation to see how much time you can squeeze from this trip. The most important thing is that you go!

What type of trip do you want?

Do you want to relax, party, beach, cheap, adventure, sceneray? This can help you when choosing a destination. If you’re looking for a cheap getaway somewhere like South East Asia is a good option. If you’re looking for fun then Europe is a great choice. If you’re looking for both then South America is perfect.

Booking the trip

Nothing beats the feeling after you’ve just booked a trip so don’t stop yourself from that feeling. When it comes to booking its best to be flexible and let the price tell you the date. Websites like Skyscanner are great for finding the best deals. I personally recommend booking a 1 way flight to your destination and maybe the first 1-2 nights accommodation and leave the rest open and flexible to book as you go because you never know what might come up and what people you will meet along the way. Being flexible when you travel allows you to make spontaneous changes to your liking on the trip and not be restrained to a schedule.

Packing & Travel Insurance

Now it’s time to pack that bag and head off. Firstly you need to consider if you will be taking a suitcase or backpack. Suitcases are generally better if you are not moving around too much and doing a holiday rather than travelling. Backpacks are generally better when travelling and constantly on the move as they are more practical and easy to move around but will not display your clothes as easily and neatly as a suitcase. A major tip when saving space is to roll your clothes rather than fold them.

Secondly, travel insurance is a must when travelling. It could save you thousands of dollars if something were to go wrong and also covers you for things out of your control.
